9/14/2021

We're on TikTok ⚡️

With TikTok’s 689 million monthly active users — 62% of those in the 10-29 age group — more and more universities, colleges, and high schools are using the platform to create funny videos, plus share tips, tricks, ideas, and resources with students. And so are we!

Let us share your content — send us your 30-to-60-second videos, and we’ll promote them on our page. Keep in mind that according to TikTok, the first three seconds of a video are critical, and videos that get the best response keep “it real and relatable.”

Best Practices for Authentic Content

How do you attract and engage with prospective students? By creating content that is useful to the students and that expresses the value of your school or program in a real and authentic way. No matter what platform you’re using (Instagram Stories, a Facebook Live Q&A, a TikTok, or an email), keep these tips in mind:

  • The students’ priorities are critical. Don’t communicate about what you think is important about your school (ie, its newest research facility), but what you hear from your students is important to them (ie, what it’s like to be a person of color on your campus). Then speak to that.
  • It doesn’t have to be perfect or polished. This generation of students doesn’t respond to slick videos — they want to have a sense of what’s real and true. So make a quick video on your phone and post it to your social feeds. Real is better than perfect.
  • Students trust other students. Even better than you making a video, have one of your current international students do it. Or they could answer questions on an Instagram Live or take students on a dorm tour or talk about food options in the cafeteria. Prospective students will respond to the sense that they’re walking around campus with someone just like them.
