SEVP Guidance: Actions to Take

​Currently the U.S. has approximately one million international students studying across the country. Last week’s guidance announcement by ICE, forcing those students to leave the U.S. if their universities provide online-only learning this fall, created instantaneous chaos. Within a day, Harvard and MIT filed suit against the Trump administration, followed by suits brought by 17 states over the last week.  

How our industry is responding and what you can do: 

1. NAFSA is holding a town hall on Thursday, July 16 that is already at capacity, but afterwards the broadcast link will be available on its site. The focus of the town hall will be to share updates on litigation, efforts made by NAFSA, and steps that we can all take.
2. Sign this TESOL petition opposing the ICE guidance.
3. If you're a Twitter user, use the hashtag #studentban. Tweet your representatives!

And finally, through all of this, remember our international students:

We want our universities to listen to us and actively assist us with the extra financial, academic and psychological obstacles resulting from the new guidance, and thus affirm that we represent more than an influx of financial and intellectual resources to them.”
