Are you curious about what Chinese students are thinking and planning around studying abroad? We have been too. So, looking for insight, we conducted a survey. Here’s some of what we learned.

Who they are
Current Chinese students interested in studying in the U.S. skew slightly more male (57%) than female (43%). However, the number of young women is an increasing trend in international education from China. Traditionally, it has been largely dominated by male students, but over the last several years there has been an increase in women interested in studying abroad.
What they’re interested in
More than 50% of the students are interested in studying abroad specifically in the U.S., and 66% are planning for summer 2022. Knowing this can help determine marketing efforts and their schedule. Focus on brand awareness first and then on engaging with these students during their research and planning phase.

How to reach them
We know how important this market is, and we have spent a lot of time figuring out as many ways to reach and engage with these students for you as we can.

Print magazines:
  • Our American Campus Chinese edition is published annually and is distributed to 1,000 high schools and to EducationUSA centers plus shared digitally with 100,000+ readers
  • English Salon is distributed monthly to 22,000 subscribers (and this is a subscriber base that is well funded)
  • 21st Century Teens is published quarterly to 500,000 students in two different segments: juniors and seniors
WeChat:
The way to reach Chinese students digitally is via WeChat.
  • But perhaps you don’t have a WeChat account?
  • Or you have an account but need help regularly creating and pushing content out on it?
  • Or maybe you don't have enough bandwidth to even think about WeChat but know how important it is and want someone just to do it for you?
We are able to help with all of these scenarios!

Our digital channels:
The survey showed us that our U.S.-based platforms — StudyUSA.com, our Instagram and Facebook channels — are reaching students in China. Consider a Live Session, sharing an article on our site, or having a student blogger write about their experiences in your program.

Other, out-of-the-box options:
  • If you can’t travel to fairs, we can send a representative for you.
  • Spread your message with our PR service.
  • We can create a China-based website for you that bypasses the Great Firewall.
